The short version: the tools run in your browser, and what you type stays there.
What stays on your device
Every calculation happens in your browser. The species you pick, the measurements you enter, your bird counts, times, place and notes are never sent to us or anyone else. Bird Harbor has no accounts, no server code, no advertising and no cookies.
A few things are kept in your browser’s local storage, on this device only, so the site remembers them next time:
- your colour theme (light, dark or automatic) and your advice region (North America or UK & Europe);
- the bird count sheet: date, times, place, notes and counts;
- the ticks on the bird bath checklist.
Clear the count sheet with its own button, or remove everything by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings.
Analytics
The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which Cloudflare adds to every page. It counts page views without cookies or cross-site tracking and never receives what you type, paste or choose in the tools. Bird Harbor sets no cookies and adds no tracking of its own.
Hosting
The pages are served by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare handles the technical details of each request, such as your IP address, to deliver the page.
Links to other sites
Pages link to the sources they cite and to a few other services, such as eBird, the Great Backyard Bird Count, the Big Garden Birdwatch, CleanTempMail and WebTraceCheck. Those sites have their own privacy policies, which apply once you follow a link.
